Postcards from Bali

Postcards from Bali

Florencia Olsson is a Fashion and Lifestyle photographer from Buenos Aires - travelling around the world, capturing beauty and emotion in every frame through film photography. We go behind the lens from our most recent shoot captured by Florencia in Bali, as we chat about what she loves the most about film photography, her favourite places, how she practices mindfulness and so much more.

Tell us about yourself in three words..

Flo: Adventurer, artist, and serial coffee drinker (not exactly 3 words but very accurate description).

How do you describe your style of photography?

Flo: I would say my style is raw and natural. I love capturing the emotion behind the photos. It’s not just about making things look good, but about making them feel good too. I focus on creating intimate moments that feel real, with minimal editing, so the images evoke the same emotion and connection I felt in the moment.

You photograph primarily on film – what is it about the aesthetic of film that you love so much?

Flo: What I love most about film is the sense of nostalgia and emotion it evokes, something digital just can’t replicate. Film makes everything look raw, true, and real, rather than staged or overly calculated.
Shooting on film also keeps me fully present in the moment, it’s like a form of meditation. With only 36 shots per roll, you have to be mindful of every detail—your subject, the background, the interaction. It forces me to focus, and in a way, that makes me a better photographer.

Your favourite destination to shoot and why?

Flo: I think from the places I’ve shot in, Sydney will always have my heart as is the place where it all started. But if you ask me from my (very long) bucket list I’d say Maldives, or Hawaii.

What’s on your go-to playlist while you’re shooting or editing?

Flo: I have a pretty eclectic taste in music, so my playlist can vary a lot depending on my mood. While editing I might switch between upbeat tracks from Bruno Mars and The Weeknd to more acoustic tunes like those by Novo Amor.

Sunset or Sunrise?

Flo: Unless it’s for a shoot you won’t find me awake earlier than 7 am so I’d have to say Sunset.

With a busy schedule, how do you like to relax and recharge?

Flo: I’ve found that journaling has been a game-changer for my mental health. I’ve been doing it for about a year now, and it really helps me clear my mind. I also like to unwind by going for walks or grabbing coffee with friends. Those little breaks are perfect for recharging and keeping things in balance.

Where can people find more about your work (website, Instagram, etc.)?

Flo: You can follow me on instagram @__Byflorencia , or my website www.florenciaolsson.com . I also opened up a Newsletter/website on Substack called “A Photographer’s Diary” where I write about the behind the scenes of my shoots and talk about all things photography. Here’s a link to it : https://florenciaolsson.substack.com/archive
